UPDATE Jan 14 09

We received word back from Toyota the other day. They brought forth the problem and to date, the only solution Toyota has is the changing of the seals around the doors. Again, our dealer is great and they will be footing the bill for this. Our dealership, as well as ourselves, will be watching the results of the seals with anticipation.

Shutting off our electronic options for the doors and using them manually has helped a great deal. I will book my van into the shop for next week or the following week. From there, we will put the new seals to the test.

I'll keep updating as we go. Please, if you haven't contacted Toyota Canada to lodge a complaint, regarding difficulties with your doors, do so now. We will make sure our dealership follows this blog, so they can keep track of the information.

Thank you again to all who are bringing forth a complaint to Toyota Canada.

Hello, everyone who's reading this and own Siennas that are no longer in warranty: a fix to this problem would be to pour a little bit of windshield washer fluid across the top and on the sides of the doors between the front driver/passenger doors and the sliding door. Give it like 2 minutes after doing so and it should open =).

is this a permenant fix or do I need to do this every time?

Hello, we have 2004 Sienna and have had this problem as well. I will register a complaint with Toyota and ask them to change the seals.

Appreciate your help...

hello Toyota Sienna'04 owners,
ours is '04 LE AWD. This winter 2011, my wife had a very bad experience driving with an OPEN passenger side automatic sliding door from New York back home to Bergenfield,NJ. She said she heard a crackling sound while opening the door and it just jammed.I found out that the cable wire is just about to snap. I got a quote from a local mechanic that it would cost $ 1,500+ for the repair. I call the local Toyota dealer and said diagnosis would cost me $99.99. That's ridiculous. Toyota should check/recall and compensate us for the cost. I will try to call Toyota Home office for this problem just as I had a year before because of tire monitoring system that just wont stop alarming. This is a disgrace for the Toyota name.
